East Boro Housing Trust held our first charity fundraising dinner for our Faulkner Fund at The Hix Academy,
Weymouth on Friday 27th April 2018. The Trust operates this charitable fund in memory of Ray Faulkner, a former Chairman, Shareholder and Board Member of the organisation for more than 50 years.
The Faulkner Fund is a “giving fund” and during this event we raised over £3,600 which will help subsidise our Emergency Hamper Service provided on behalf of, and by referral from, Dorset County Council for families in urgent need and where children are at risk of not receiving adequate nutrition. The Hamper Service not only supplies food but also toiletries and day-to-day essentials that these families simply cannot afford. Each hamper costs on average £22 and provides, not only vital supplies for the family, but also support when they are feeling at their lowest.
The Faulkner Fund also supports elderly residents in sheltered housing who have been hit by recent cuts in local government funding. From April 2018 all residents, including those who receive benefits, will not recieve a Sheltered Housing Officer Visiting Service. This, for many pensioners who are vulnerable is a frightening prospect. The Faulkner Fund is hoping to raise approximately £15k to fund this service each year. One visit by a Sheltered Housing Officer costs £2.50 per week. One visit a week by a Sheltered Housing Officer provides individual support and is a safety visiting service to many tenants in Sheltered Housing.
This event was attended by fifty people who all enjoyed a wonderful meal in the elegant and fashionable surroundings of The Hix. Under the eye of their mentors, the Hix Academy staff are made up of full-time students, polishing their skills before heading off to launch their own successful careers.
The money was raised from the sale of tickets, a raffle and the auction of some fantastic items including sports memorabilia, a holiday and event tickets.
We would like to extend special thanks to our sponsors,TGM Electrical & Cooke Builders, the people and organisations who donated prizes and to all who attended on the night to offer their amazing support!
We will be organising another similar event next year
