Local landlords from across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole are being urged to sign up to the Council’s new Help to Let support and incentive scheme.

Help to Let aims to support landlords with less than 30 properties to provide affordable private rented tenancies to local people at risk of becoming homeless. In return landlords can receive up to £2,000 incentive, rent and deposit in advance as well as support for new landlords.

There is currently insufficient affordable and social housing across the area and so the scheme aims to create around 150 new tenancies and support a further 130 local households by March 2020, reducing the numbers of people living in temporary and B&B accommodation.

Councillor Kieron Wilson, Cabinet Member for Housing, BCP Council, said: “This is a fantastic and much needed initiative. I would urge local landlords to consider signing up to this scheme which will not only mean receiving an incentive payment but also on-going support from the council who will be offering 1-2-1 support to tenants to maintain their tenancy.

“The more landlords we can support and enable to offer affordable tenancies, the fewer residents we will see facing homelessness and having to live in emergency and temporary accommodation.”

Help to Let provides:

  • financial incentives for local landlords to provide much needed accommodation for tenants.
  • support to the social letting agency ‘Homes 4 Let’ to acquire more properties to fully manage on behalf of landlords
  • one-to-one support for people placed by the Council in to new tenancies to help them stay in their home.

The Council recently received £480,000 from Government for the initiative.
